Creating a Password After Using Google Sign-In
When you register with a service using Google Sign-In, the system creates an account for you without a password. Your Google account handles authentication, so the service account itself has no password associated with it. This means you cannot log in with just your email and a password until one is created.
The solution is to use the password reset function to create a password for your account. This process doesn’t “reset” a forgotten password, but instead creates one for the first time. Afterward, you can log in with both your Google account and an email/password combination.
Step 1: Log Out of Your Account
Step 2: Create a Password for Your Account
- Open a new browser tab and go to the password reset page: Reset Password.
- Enter the email address you used with Google Sign-In.
- You will receive an email with a link to create your new password.
- Click the link and follow the prompts to set a password for your account.
How to Link Your Google Account to an Existing Account
- If you already have an account that uses the same email address as your Google account, you can link them.
- Go to the signup page: Sign Up.
- Choose the option to "Sign up with Google" and use your Google account.
- The system will recognize that the email is already associated with an existing account and will link the two, allowing you to log in with either your Google sign-in or your new email/password combination.
